UK light heavyweight standout Michael “The Count” Bisping has confirmed that he will be fighting on September 8 at UFC 75 against an unnamed opponent. The wildly popular local fighter earned a second round TKO at April 21's UFC 70 against Elvis Sinosic in Manchester, just miles down the road from his Clithoroe home.
The Las Vegas-based promotion’s third UK event is rumoured to be taking place at the renovated O2 arena on the famed Thames River, which could hold upwards of 20,000 spectators depending on configuration.
Bisping made the announcement this weekend during the SENI07 Combat Show in London, a two-day event that drew a myriad of martial arts enthusiasts, both young and old, and hosted dozens of Martial Arts, Combat Sports and Extreme Fitness booths that filled the Excel convention centre.
UFC 75 scheduled to take place on Saturday, September 8 in London.
The
show will be broadcast live in the UK on PPV via Setanta Sports, with
London’s o2 Arena the likely host for what will be the third UFC show
of 2007 to take place in the UK. The o2 Arena is a new venue in London,
developed from what was originally the Millennium Dome. With a capacity
of around 23,000, it recently underwent a £600m refit after years of
speculation and argument over its future use, and as well as playing
host to several high profile music concerts later this year, is also
being used to host other several U.S sporting events, including a
Boston Celtics vs Minnesota Timberwolves NBA game as part of the NBA’s
plans to stage matches in Europe, and NHL games involving LA Kings and
Anaheim Ducks.
We’ll have more on UFC’s plans for UFC 75 over
the next couple of weeks. Ahead of then, UFC return to the UK next
month for UFC 72 in Belfast, Northern Ireland on Saturday, June 16,
plus UFC 71 takes place this coming Saturday night in Las Vegas.
