I first had the privilege of meeting Stuart over six years ago when he joined my academy. Even though he was already an accomplished Judoka he had a desire to learn and an immense amount of self discipline and dedication in order to make the round trip from Stirling to Edinburgh twice a week. He quickly became a stalwart of the gym and one of the most talented BJJ players to have graced the mats at my academy which is evidenced by the competition results he had and his week to week improvement in both his fighting ability and technical skill. I recently told Stuart he was well on his way to becoming a BJJ black belt- he was that good.
Above all of that Stuart was a kind and caring human being who enriched the lives of those of us who knew him. I feel honoured to have been able to share some of my knowledge with him but in reality it was myself and the members of my club who were given the better end of the deal just by interacting with Stuart and having the privilege of knowing and being friends with him. I was shocked and saddened beyond words when I heard of his passing. Some of the guys at the gym were in tears when they heard the news.
It breaks my and my wife Claire’s hearts that we won’t see him walk in to the academy, bow, and say “Hello Mrs Young” and joke “How are you Professor?” We will both miss him dearly and our academy will have a gap that cannot be filled because of his passing.
Stuart, we pray that you are at peace. Thank you for enriching our lives and helping our own journeys be happier and more fulfilled. Love always, Rick and Claire Young.

Im very saddened to hear of such terrible news, especially when its someone who shares the same love of the sport as we do.

I only hope that the kind words expressed on this forum can in someway help his family through this tough time. Stuart was obviously well loved and respected by all that new him.

He passed away doing something he loved.

RIP.

It was a privilege to have trained with Stuart.

He was humble in his achievements. A credit to the sport, his family and country.

I'll miss his presence greatly.

That is really shocking news, my thoughts go out to his family, friends and students; this was a guy getting the most out of life and was taken away way too early and is a reminder for us left here to really grab life and get as much out of it as you can, follow your dreams what ever they may be, follow them 100% as we never know when our time is up on this planet.

It sounded like this man filled all his minutes doing what he loved best. Sincere condolences to his family.

Rest in peace bro.

Stuart was one of the first people I ever spoke to about BJJ at the Leao Teixeira seminar Andy Roberts put on at Bradford - he seemed like a decent bloke and I pass on my condolences to his family

My deepest condolences to his family, friends and the UK bjj community. I just heard about his death.
I was privileged to fight Stuart in Lisbon in 2008. Great fighter, tough man and good friend.  After Lisbon we have become friends..Remember  him shouting my name during Gracie Invitational in 2008. What the shame he will not be doing it again.
To let you know Stuart... there is the draw between us  1:1  ... We  still have an extra time up there to do.
RIP my friend.
