Maybe the attitude had something to do with Rob asking questions that had no need to be asked and posting all this on a public forum before he even knew the facts. No arsehole bus stop wankers.

So there was going to be BJJ but not now? So who 'was' going to conduct those classes?

And please stop with the karate qualifications. They are not impressive.

Questions that had no need to be asked? I don't think asking a club that claims to teach BJJ who the BJJ instructor is qualifies as a question that doesn't need to be asked. On the contrary, these kinds of questions do need to be asked in order to ensure that students aren't being ripped off.

Bekz, thanks for coming on and answering questions. But I think your comment about people on here being practised at making people look foolish is unwarranted. Generally the only people who end up looking foolish are those who lay claim to something and are then exposed. BJJ is still a small martial art in the UK, hence it is usually very easy to work out if someone is being dishonest. If you care to look through some of the other forums on here, there is a copy of a very comprehensive history of UK BJJ (from the SFUK forums), and most of the writers on that thread are on here as well, so we generally know pretty much everyone who has been involved in UK BJJ since its inception here.

This isn't a witch hunt, this is a group of people who care very deeply about their martial art, and who don't want to see prospective students conned by fraudulent instructors who add BJJ to their list of arts in an attempt to latch onto the current wave of popularity. If Stuart is genuine, then why was he so incredibly defensive when asked about his BJJ background?

Their poster on the facebook also says MMA, so is this MMA and we know it or just a use of the phrase to explain their multi layer traditional classes?

Exactly it didnt say he taught Bjj, plus what qualifies you guys to ask the questions. I wouldnt mind if you actually had an intention of training there, you are just looking for trouble where there is no need.

OK, so Stuart won't be teaching the BJJ. It's someone called Al Docerty who trained under a Kevin Murphy. Any chance your brother has a bit more info then that?

Huck, we're simply asking the same questions any prospective student might ask. Would a new student get the same runaround? Why so defensive?

There was going to be a BJJ Class held on a Sunday.

From the wall on your Facebook account;

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is great, I have done a bit before and it was really good!

To mods: why is this thread locked? I think it's important to discuss all the facts here. It's only one thread, I would totally agree anything which spills over into other threads should be deleted.

Re-opened for an answer to "If Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes were never in place, why did someone post the above quote on the wall of the Facebook group?"

It may simply be that the person who posted has no real idea, and used BJJ as a generic term for groundwork. To be honest if you don't really know, whats the difference between, BJJ, Sambo, Submission wrestling, wrestling, Newaza etc.

I know and you know the difference, but lots don't

I told my parents I was going to the europeans this year. When I visted them and saw their friends I was apparently competing for Britain at taekwondo and, was I going to the olympics LOL

Actually I think this may explain why Stuart Hicken took such an aggressive initial tone. Now that I think of it, it may be possibly, he has no idea what Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is, and simply refers to all groundwork as 'Brazilian' style of whatever they choose to call it.

In any case, I think the point has been made. The karate group will think twice before advertising BJJ by a non-BJJ instructor.
This Beckz person has been more than willing to explain and the matter should be left alone.
Lets move on.
