Regarding "ELITIST".

Notice to all UK BJJ Fighters,

As the sport grows we will become aware of more frauds. Some will be harmless
and others won't be.They will all have one thing in common, they will falsely advertise their qualifications and grades in BJJ,or offer BJJ Classes with a mystery instructor with the aim of making money from our art.

As we self police our art the only argument they will have with logic and fact is to call us elitist.Having this word 'Elitist' aimed at us may be the only way of stopping our art becoming like Karate,Taekwondo or Ju Jutsu with mulitiple styles and multiple Grand Masters. If this happens to our art it will water down its very essence and we will lose it to the Martial Arts frauds that have destroyed so many other arts.

We live on a small island,we are a small community and self policing is possible. We are doing a great job so far.

I applaud Rob T for not threatening these people in any way or being rude,
he just stuck to the facts, presented logic and proof and asked questions and another shady BJJ Class has been exposed.

Guys, please stop all this tom foolery, its got to the point where I no longer leave the house for fear of missing the latest installment in this or one of the other Starsky & Hutch style BJJ policing.
That said(and slap me if I am a do gooder) should we not help clubs that believe they are teaching BJJ correctly, by locating a nearby suitable affiliated club, and see if they can provide adequate sessions or seminars for them(should the said club want it).
When all is said and done the more practitioners of BJJ there are the greater everyones game becomes, the more chance we have of it becoming an Olympic sport.
No art is better than another, just different.

^^ nobody said one was better than the other, the main worry here is instructors falsley and KNOWINGLY deceiving students by giving them info which is not true.

Rocknrolla,
A list of nearby clubs was provided at the beginning of the thread.

These people do not want nearby clubs, they want to cash in on BJJ
at their clubs,
now that the masses are not interested in learning the arts that have been
watered down already.

Every martial arts instructor knows what they are qualified to teach and what
is fraudulent,

For instance if I advertised that I was going to run a Karate class taught by myself at Carlsons it would be fraudulent and I would know that.
I would also be able to find a qualified karate instructor if I wished to.
Its not hard.
Stop sticking up for frauds.

Hang on. This 'Rob' remember, a mere purple belt,
his avatar photo shows a clean shaven young man. But in the videos, there is a bearded gentleman doing funny things with his arms and legs. Is this not FRAUD! He is clearly not the same person.

BTW, I want to see your silly Photoshop mask.

Haha, my avatar is of a person much more powerful than me! Wink

I will post my "silly mask" in this thread later. Can't do it now as I only have access to Facebook through my phone (it's blocked in work) and that's the only place the photo is uploaded atm.

Yeah, if elitist means having a proper lineage and training in real BJJ, I am all for being elitist Smiley

I wasn't rude until they annoyed me Wink

Good work Rob T.

Without this kind of vigilance BJJ could easily slide down the chute of dillution and end up as just another cash extracting parody. So on behalf of all of us, thanks.

What still concerns me though is that there is nobody to tell the people up there that trying to pull any of that Stav crap against even an 8 year old with a knife & bad intent will get them seriously wounded if not killed.

Aside from instructors making fraudulent claims regarding the arts they teach, it is extremely worrying that there are instructors out there who teaching stuff that would get someone seriously hurt. These poor students walk into these schools genuinely thinking that they will be taught useful, practical martial arts that may protect them and possibly save their lives, only to be confronted with rubbish like that.

People may call us elitist (or worse names), but at least we know that our art works. We test it each time we step on the mat against resisting opponents. I urge Bekz or any member of that club to take a serious look at your art and its training and ask yourself if you really think that what you've been taught would work against someone (even someone your own size) trying to tear your head off. Because will all due respect to the students of that school, I don't think it would. Please switch on that sceptical little voice in your head and do some investigating. If you're still happy after looking around, then so be it.

lol, just looked at my Youtube account and some saddo has gone through rating loads of them as 1 star.

So funny that the people who try to act like they are somehow morally superior and respectful can do childish stuff like that!!

I'm gonna post this story on my blog, it just gets better.

Rating Rob T's videos one star, LOL!

To be fair, to the untrained eye, BJJ is not the most exciting to look at visually. I mean, where is the board breaking and roundhouse kicking? And the slow-mo knife defenses by podgy blokes with handlebar moustaches? BJJ is clearly onto a loser on that front.
